COURSE DESCRIPTION: Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Faith in Action Service Club was created for middle and high school students eager to serve with purpose, grow as leaders, and develop teamwork skills. In this group, you’ll discover what it takes to become a close-knit,  effective team that works together to serve the Lord and positively affect the world around you. Through engaging activities, team-building exercises, and meaningful service projects, students will learn how to collaborate, communicate, and problem-solve as part of a team.

Worth Mentioning: Did you know that service learning is consistently ranked among the most valued activities on college applications, with nearly 70 percent of Harvard’s incoming students reporting sustained service experience? Students who actively help develop, plan, implement, and lead meaningful service projects are especially noticed by colleges. That is exactly what we do in our Faith in Action Service Club!

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS: Learning does not stop in class! Students will have the opportunity to take part in hands-on service projects and team adventures that help them grow and make a difference.

Activities might include planning, preparing and taking part in outreaches such as helping with Thanksgiving baskets, volunteering at the Humane Society, serving at a soup kitchen, and/or doing fun combo projects like we did this past year, playing disc golf and cleaning up the park afterward.

Parents will need to transport their children to outreach locations unless they are comfortable with carpooling and carpooling is available.

Participation outside of class is encouraged when feasible so students can experience the full benefit of the course. Parents will be invited from time to time to participate in a classroom or off campus outreach event, typically 1–2 times per semester. Your presence is a blessing and helps make these experiences possible for our students. I am excited to see how God will work through each student in the year ahead!

Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV) “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving .”

If your student did NOT complete the ASL Level 1 course but has prior ASL learning experience, please contact Jamie Kuntz for approval. (Students who took ASL 6-8 during the 2024-2025 school year and are now in the 9-12 age range may be eligible to enroll in this course. Level 2 placement is at the discretion of the teacher.)**

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS: Intermittent handouts, activities, or online videos for review and practice during the week. These will not be required but will be very beneficial for language acquisition as it is difficult to learn a language when only using/exposed to it once a week.

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE 13+ LEVEL 2

**This course is open to students who completed ASL Level 1 during the 2025-2026 school year at Master’s Hand Longmont. If your student did NOT complete the ASL Level 1 course but has prior ASL learning experience, please contact Jamie Kuntz for approval.**

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS: Approximately 1 hour of homework per week: required assignments will be a mixture of reviewing online resources, writing, and reading. Language and culture are inextricable. Learning about the Deaf culture is essential for acquiring usable ASL skills. Videos/Readings on Deaf Culture will be assigned as homework and we will discuss cultural content in class periodically (discussion days). Since language cannot be learned in isolation, I will prioritize class time for practicing active language skills. Thus, there will be simple writing assignments to support comprehension of the cultural material (e.g. writing a brief summary of the week’s video/reading, answering simple questions about the week’s assignments, etc.) and to facilitate some “discussion” outside of class time.

Payment Options: Check and Venmo (@Carrie-Matthews-21)

Prerequisites: None

Supplies Needed: Notgrass Exploring Government student textbook 4TH EDITION ONLY PLEASE – you should be able to find it used. I will order everything else your student will need.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course helps students make sense of the US Constitution by learning how local, state, and national governments work – and why it all matters in everyday life. Students will learn how candidates run for office, how elections really work, and how to follow political current events with discernment and a critical eye. As major races and issues take shape across the political spectrum, we’ll track them together as the 2028 presidential election season approaches. The heart of this course is to help students understand the role of government in society and to grow into thoughtful, informed, and engaged citizens.

You can find detailed information about the curriculum at https://shop.notgrass.com/exploring-government

Notes: A literature option is available for this class. While I won’t be teaching that portion, I do highly recommend it. Because this curriculum is designed as a one-semester course, and roughly half the speed of a traditional history class, we will discuss the week’s political current events.

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS: Homework includes answering guided questions for each chapter and studying for short quizzes and tests. For accountability, students are expected to type their answers in Google Docs and share them with me every two weeks.

building a foundation of an active, healthy life; one that glorifies God with the gift of their bodies.

All physical education classes are designed to develop strength, balance, flexibility, and

coordination through fun warm-up routines, games, and stretching. Then, each quarter two or

three organized games or sports will be taught.

Soccer, kickball, volleyball, team handball, ultimate Frisbee, Frisbee/disc golf, golf swing, flag

football, basketball, jump roping, circusing, beanbags, driveway games, badminton, cup

stacking, and more are taught. Specific skills will be broken down and games and fun drills will

be played to put these skills into action. One game or sport will be taught each quarter that is

great for home play so that the student can organize and participate at home with family or

friends. Please consider that each unit is taught over three years with emphasis given to one

phase. Year One: basic skills. Year Two: team and individual strategy. Year Three: drills and

play.

P.E. should be taught from a Biblical worldview too! You do not get that from Rec programs,

Apex, or the local fitness or gymnastics center. PE classes provide many ways to teach Biblical

principles as well as challenge the students to go beyond their comfort zones. Part of physically

educating them is teaching them about the amazing ways God has designed our bodies to

perform physically.

The thirteen and up class includes fitness curriculum from In The Core Sports Performance.

This not only teaches them proper form and movement mechanics, but also teaches them how

to workout on their own!

SCIENCE IN THE BIBLE + SCIENCE XTREME

Teacher: Teacher: Aaron Vogel

Age Range: 9-12

Class Size: Minimum 10 students.

Materials Fee: $45 (Fee includes materials for labs and experiments) Occasionally,

students will need to bring a household item for a lab, like an empty plastic bottle.

Tuition: $30.00

Payment Type Accepted: Check

COURSE DESCRIPTION::

The best of both! Units between these two very popular classes will alternate throughout the year. Discover how science confirms what God’s word has already told us about a topic in science one week and the next be challenged with some common and some not so common science labs, stem projects and other science challenges will be taken to the extreme in head to head group competitions.

Science in the Bible will challenge students to look up Bible references on interesting topics that can be studied and confirmed scientifically. For example the eye. Learn that God’s word has a lot to say about our eyes. How they should be guarded and what they should look on. But why? Learning amazing facts, studying the structure and functions and dissecting the eye will help them to understand.

Science Xtreme involves taking regular science labs to the extreme by changing and adding additional challenges to the parameters of the lab or experiment. They will have to use the scientific principles that are first taught at the beginning of each challenge and brainstorm with those they are partnered with to figure out and overcome the extreme twists thrown at them. These special twists will come in the form of what types of materials they use to build, limitations they must deal with, how they will gain points in competition to the other teams, and how they will overcome ‘road blocks’ that are suddenly added to the challenge. This will be fun, and friendly and full of scientific discovery.
